Casa da Mariquinhas distinguishes for being a small space, with good acoustics, favorable to the complicity between the public and the artists. The granite walls, the lighting, and the small size of the space make it one of the most exciting places to enjoy an intimate Fado experience in Porto with dinner.
It has a minimum consumption of 40€ and is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 PM to 11:30 PM. I would advice you to book in advance to ensure your place.
What to Expect
At Casa da Mariquinhas, as usual in Fado Houses, you will enjoy traditional Portuguese food and live Fado. The show is offered in several moments of about 20 minutes, distributed throughout the various stages of the dinner – starter, main course, dessert, and coffee and appetizers.
The Fado group includes two fado singers (male and female voices) and two guitar players (Portuguese and classical guitar). You will hear fados and also other popular styles – Songs, Marchas and Folklore – that are usually part of this kind of show.
It is currently the oldest Fado House in Porto. It was founded in 1968 by Heitor Gil de Vilhena, and in 2001 it closed down. But in 2011, it reopened with new management and is currently one of the most popular Fado places in Porto, perhaps the most popular.
Where is it?
It is located in the typical neighborhood of Sé, in front of the Santana Arch, near the Porto Cathedral, one of the main and oldest monuments in Portugal.
